Summary /Objective:

Join us in helping build the foundation for lifelong success! Skagit Preschool and Resource Center (SPARC) is a mission driven non-profit organization located in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. We provide individualized services for families and their children with unique developmental needs in Skagit County, WA.  SPARC is seeking a highly motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant (COAT) to join our growing team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience with young children and/or children with disabilities is strongly recommended to ensure competency and knowledge in: program planning, development and coordination for children with a wide range of unique developmental needs.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Degree from an accredited, board approved occupational therapy assistant program (Required)
  • Washington State Occupational Therapy Assistant Licence (Required)
  • Washington State Educational Staff Associate License (Required – May be acquired after hire) 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

(Include the following but are not limited to, other duties may be assigned)

  • Provides therapy in gross motor, fine motor and cognitive skills and activities of daily living with children from birth to age 5 in school, clinic, home or another natural environment.
  • Participates in regular consultation with supervising Occupational Therapists.
  • Documents treatment notes.
  • Contributes to progress reports and child’s Individual Family Service Plan and Individual Education Plan.
  • Actively engages in a team approach with therapists, parents, teachers, and classroom assistants to serve children.
  • Selects constructive activities suited to child’s physical capacity, developmental level and interest to improve individual’s independence with everyday activities and assist in restoration of functions.
  • Teaches child skills and techniques required for participation in self-care, play and learning tasks and monitors individual’s progress.
  • Educates families and classroom staff on how to effectively implement therapeutic activities to meet a child’s objectives.
  • Must professionally interact with children, parents, and co-workers.
  • Interact with children in accordance with SPARC policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times with co-workers, parents, center staff and outside professionals.
  • Ability to function in a calm, efficient, courteous manner under stress and to exercise careful judgment and tact in performance of duties.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Professionally interact with culturally and economically diverse students, staff, families, and members of the public.
  • Comply with all SPARC policies and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Therapy is provided in the home, classroom, or clinic settings depending on each child’s individual program and needs. Teams communicate and collaborate regularly in order to support each other and the families we serve.   

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

Classification: Full-Time or Part-Time (16-36 hours per week) 

Pay: $28.50 – 40.27 per hour (Annual contracted hours are calculated and paid on a 12 month salary basis)

Reports to: Lead Therapist & Supervising Occupational Therapist

Schedule: Monday – Thursdays work week with flexibility. 

Contract Type: 10 month school district year of September – June (additional hours and pay available during the summer months).

TRAVEL

Local travel between SPARC locations and home visits is required. For this reason, employees must have a valid driver’s license, car insurance, and reliable transportation.
